Review of The Tomorrow War (2021) by Neldot — 03 Jul 2021
The idea behind the film isn't bad, although telegraphed and without any real plot twist. but what really doesn't hold up is the script. Too many things don't add up, creating notable holes in the plot.
Attention, from here on, it contains partial spoilers!
The first example of weird plot hole is that it's unclear what is the purpose of sending citizens poorly armed and untrained to only being slaughtered, instead of concentrating the effort in researching better weapons and armors and send only trained soldiers. Also, why use such inadequate weapons as assault rifles, which obviously do very little damage to super-armored mega-aliens? It is difficult to believe that there are no more sophisticated weapons 30 years in the future, when rockets, missiles, flamethrowers and grenades, never used by soldiers, are already there today and would do much more damage to the aliens.
Again, when they finally discover the serum and immediately the bad monsters attack the base, I understand that they don't want to waste the only dose on the captured queen, but why don't they kill her in the traditional way with some other weapon?
There are many other plot holes, for example in the management of paradoxes related to time travel, I will not list them all, but the general impression is that the development of the script, although the subject was good, was a lazy job made by amateurish people. Such a pity.
