Review of The Tomorrow War (2021) by Emurfo — 03 Jul 2021
Holy cow was this movie bad. I started of with low expectations but decided to give it a shot. The initial premise is interesting, so long as you don't think about it. Based on the cast I was maybe hoping it would be some schlocky and fun film, but the movie takes itself way too seriously for me to forgive all the things wrong with this movie.
Spoilers past this.
The monsters vary from being very stupid at times, and having some sort of genius hive mind the next. They are strong enough to flip an armored Humvee, but then a handful of soldiers with cables/ropes are enough to tie one down. (And that was supposed to be the significantly stronger "Queen") They go from running down horses and vehicles, to being outpaced by inexperienced and unfit draftees. The monsters constantly change based on what the plot needs them to be.
The story is a logical nightmare. The characters have no depth. Audio was all over the place. The funniest parts weren't the jokes in the dialogue, but more-so mishaps in the story or the effects. Its so bad that being terrible might be its best quality. I recommend this film only because it would be great for a movie night if you and some friends just want to rip on it for its 2+ hours runtime. No joke, in the C-4 scene you can see and hear a whistling bottle rocket go off, A+ for the pyrotechnics person who snuck that in there. WTF did I just watch....
