Review of The Tomb of Ligeia (1964) by Brandy M — 21 Jul 2007
This movie is based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story "Ligeia," which, if you have never read, is absolutely exquisite. (Poe's description of Ligeia leaves the reader in wonder as to whether such an ethereal beauty could ever have existed in reality).
While Corman does stray from Poe's original story, he manages to stay true to the haunting atmosphere of the tale.
Once again, Vincent Price renders a wonderful performance as the tortured Verden Fell.
Of Corman's film adaptations of Poe's works, this is one of my favourites. It is as eerily memorable as the original story.
