Review of The Tomb of Ligeia (1964) by Allan C — 18 Aug 2013
Putting aside Vincent's resemblance to a gothic Shakin' Stevens, this is really very good. More literate than the other Poe adaptations and beautifully filmed on location at Castle Acre Priory.
This film is also incontrovertible proof that cats are fundamentally evil bastards. Elizabeth Shepherd (who was the original choice for Emma Peel in The Avengers) acquits herself splendidly in the dual roles of Lady Rowena/Lady Ligeia.
