Review of The To Do List (2013) by Meshawn L — 25 Jul 2013
This comedy is simply not very funny. The story is poorly conceived. It is a low-brow effort. It might appeal to a junior high school age person. The story of a high school girl on a mission to become sexually experienced; follows the more familiar theme applied to boys. But, this movie is a pale shadow of the similar, male-centered, much better written, SUPERBAD.
This movie relies upon gross out humor. There are the standard vomiting, farting, and poop jokes. There is a lot yelling and cursing to no apparent end. Our super-bright, Valedictorian, is puzzled by all slang terms for sexual acts and body parts. She is so intent upon gaining sexual experience; that she is apparently willing to take on virtually all comers.
Bill Hader and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are both here from the earlier movie. Hader has a few moments, this guy is talented; but is not fully utilized. And, Plasse (McLovin from SUPERBAD) is barely used. He, like all of the other high schoolers in this film, looks way too old to be a teenager.
The movie never jells. It just moves from scene to scene until the end credits roll.
If you like low-brow, bathroom humor, this film might be for you.
