Review of The Tingler (1959) by David C — 08 Oct 2008
The story is just plain odd. And more dull than scary. But the gimmicks make me wish I could have been at the theatre on opening night! The film is in black and white but there's this great scene where a bloodied hand rises out of a bathtub filled with blood.
And only the blood is in color. Then there's a scene where it looks like the film breaks. Everything goes quiet. Then you see the shadow of the tingler on the projectionist and Vincent Price yells, "The tingler is loose in THIS theatre! Scream! Scream for your lives!" The surround sound kicks in and screams start coming from all directions like I'm in the theatre! The special features mentions that at this point, little buzzers on each seat start going off.
Sounds like a blast!
