The movie was a gimmick, with the idea encouraging the viewer to scream. In fact when the movie was advertised, they gaurenteed that 'the tingler' would get loose in the movie theater as you watch.
The movie isn't scary at all. And I found myself laughing when the tingler was loose. As gimmick movies go, this movie has actual interesting story to it too. I havent really seen much of Vincent Price, so I don't know how it compares with his other work, but he played his role very seriously.
