I love William Castle's little introduction...and the use of the color red for only one scene.
Wikipedia says that this is the first ever major motion picture that talks about the LSD expirience...it was still illegal when the film came out. I like that quite a bit. this film calls for audience participation...if you refuse to scream you are an asshole.
