Review of The Times of Harvey Milk (1984) by Martin T — 22 Feb 2010
This is brilliantly done, moving and inspiring. I first saw it in the eighties when it was first made and just about remember my reaction then - I am not as angry as I was then, but more questioning - what are politics like in SF now? What is Harvey Milk's long term legacy? This showing was in Belfast and there was a panel discussion afterwards - I was a little saddened by the general lack of energy for change in the room.
Perhaps because gay people in NI feel so isolated. And why, apart from my friend and I were there no straight people there? Where are the liberals and the intelligentsia, why aren't we all standing together? Perhaps I am angry after all.
