Probably the most amazing thing about this film is the idea that a dress shop would keep the same mannequin in their window for more than 60 years.

Leaving that aside, after our inventor has been told that "The laws of providence are not meant for Man to trifle with," and that his invention could have no commercial applications (how weird is that? - one of his friends tells him he should be inventing things that would be useful in the war effort. Wouldn't the military find it useful to be able to pop into the future and find out what the enemy is about to do? Strangely, no-one seems to think of that.).

Anyway, in the end, he takes his invention and zips off into the future to be with the love of his life. And no-one ever tries to follow his work. Did he destroy all his notes, theories, designs etc. before he left? The movie doesn't tell us.
