Review of The Time Machine (1960) by Nathan M — 23 Oct 2012
Pal's H.G. Wells Time Machine adaptation is well made with Cold War angst and matte paintings galore. Along with Planet of the Apes and The Omega Man, this film adaptation cautions that excessive investment in the military-industrial complex will result in a decimated human society.
The fear of nuclear annihilation is palpable, as this film was made a mere couple of years before the Cuban Missile Crisis. The production design is interesting, especially in the near-future parts of the movie, showing a transition across time with a decent attention to detail.
The intellectual Rod Taylor is infinitely more likable than the cocky overrated Charlton Heston in the category of Cold War sci fi films. (24 October 2012).
