Review of The Three Musketeers (2011) by James O — 06 Jun 2014
There has been several Three Musketeer-based movies before, we have had Kiefer Sutherland's version, and then there was The Musketeer, one that deals with Hong Kong martial arts. Now we have Paul W.
S Anderson's version, which is more connected to Alexandre Dumas' classic story (kind of, not so much) and I will say, this version is not helping the franchise, at all. Like almost all of Paul W.
S Anderson's movies, his wife, Mila Jovovich plays a character named Milady, and while watching this movie, it seems like she is the main character. So why does a movie thats suppose to be about 3 swordsman star her? Why? Just Why? Aside from that, several scenes are in this movie, involving Jovovich, slipping, sliding, twirling, flipping in slow motion, and I watch it, and I ask myself "Why is this happening?".
There is no reason for slow motion to be used in every single action scene, especially when it's not even necessary. In the end Paul W.S Anderson turned this into a movie into some cheap, lazy, action movie with a couple actors, and none of them are doing a good job at playing their characters.
It's full of characters that one will just not care about, and has a plot line that is just all over the place. It's just messy. Quite honestly, after seeing this movie, I am no longer looking forward to another Three Musketeers movie.
The Three Musketeers are always gonna be awesome characters, but really there shouldn't be anymore movies based on these characters, the tale has suffered enough.
