Review of The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) by Sean C — 03 Feb 2008
Character driven Tex-Mex drama written by Guillermo Arriaga and directed by Tommy Lee Jones.
Ranch hand Pete Perkins sets out to fulfill the promise he made to his recently deceased friend Melquiades by bringing his body across the border and back to his village in Mexico for a proper burial. Melquiades was killed by rookie border guard Mike Norton (Barry Pepper) and Pete kindnaps him and forces him to come along. Their epic journy through the West Texas badlands and into the barren, sun-baked hills of Mexico leads these two estranged individuals to the spiritual conclusion that nobody is beyond redemption. "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" is a thought provoking movie about faith and friendship.
The best, and most underrated movie of 2006.
