Review of The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) by Michael P — 21 Sep 2008
A little too plodding, and (in its non-linear structure) pretentious for its own good. But generally this is a beautifully written, acted and shot tale, and despite the potential of the unique locations, more of a character piece than anything.
The redemptive arcs of both Jones and Pepper are a smidgen too subtle (for me) to be truly emotive, but there's some brilliant supportive work from Yoakam as the sheriff, and especially the old blind geezer, whose scenes will not only de-mythologize the old west, they will break your heart.
