Review of The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) by Carlos R — 04 Sep 2011
It is by no means a bad film, because it's generally well done despite some flaws in writing and directing. However, it's got very good acting performances, specially Rene Russo and Pierce Brosnan. Russo shines in this film and she is the main reason why this film succeeds... partially. Their chemistry on the screen was excellent, and most of the scenes they shared together were quite good. The plot itself is a little flawed and that's noticed mostly in the end which was too fast and unbelievable (not in a good way). Another good aspect was the marvelous music that plays throughout the whole film.
The film has its merits, and it was entertaining, but I wouldn't watch it a second time. While the "romance/comedy" part has plenty of charm, the "crime" part lacks soul.
On the other hand, it was a remake of a film of the 60's that's sometimes considered a classic of that decade, and sadly I haven't watched it yet. I hope it is much better than this "somewhat decent" remake.
