Review of The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) by Vincent T — 06 Mar 2013
This remake of the Steve McQueen classic holds its own as a pleasing and enjoyable viewing. Pierce Brosnan is as cool as ever and Rene Russo's sexy presence makes a strong combination. Director John McTiernan will by no means be remembered for this film when compared to his previous work such as Die Hard and Predator.
But The Thomas Crown Affair is an understated but enjoyable addition to McTiernan's impressive film making CV. The soundtrack is good and Nina Simone's classic song Sinner Man for me steals the show.
Pierce Brosnan's sophistication and Bond like manor is comfort zone and guilty pleasure viewing. I can see why many felt this film may of been too mushy, but in this instance mushy worked for me. I would happily watch again, no questions asked.
