Review of The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) by Rob S — 03 Sep 2009
Flashy and stylish, but lacks the substance to justify it. Dunaway is so deliberately sexy that it's distracting. She becomes another piece of flair just like the splitting screen effect and the cool music.
When the film is centered around the initial heist, I was glued. But once the romantic element took the foreground, the film lulled drastically. I can't say if it's due to the contrived cinematography or maybe some missing pages in the script, but it teters over the edge during the second act.
Although it's a nice story and rather impressive looking, the actors don't deliver with their usual grace and it's more commited visually than narratively.
