Review of The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) by Matt H — 20 Aug 2009
I finally got around to watching the original in full. Since this sparked the idea for the later version, I can't be too critical but I still enjoy Brosnan's portrayal much more. McQueen is just a little to quiet and terse to pass as a business mogul who knows immense amounts of detail on currency trading.
Hence, the dialog isn't as intriguing as in the remake. The subject of an art heist is also more interesting as it shows Crown's interests as opposed to those he perceives in society; the original bank job is more about lashing out at "the system" and has a little more violence, thus making Crown a less relatable protagonist.
