Review of The Third Man (1949) by Andy A — 07 Mar 2009
True enough, what we have here is a great piece of film noir, but generally speaking, the lopsided ending caught me off guard (seeing as the rest of the picture was so excellently crafted). At some points we get the feeling that the script is going to turn surreal but the story merely wavers at the line of departure rather than ever really crossing it.
But what really makes this movie is the great use of on-location filming in the war-torn sectors of Vienna, a perfectly dark and atmospheric environ for such a disparate post-war mystery.
