Carol Reed's THE THIRD MAN is a thrilling mystery, the likes of which even Hitchcock rarely rivaled. The cinematography is brilliant, and the use of the zither throughout is oddly offbeat and unsettling.
Joseph Cotten delivers a wonderful performance as Holly Martins, a writer of western novels, who travels to Vienna to stay with a friend, only to find out that his friend is dead. He then begins gathering clues as to his friends death, trying to find out the truth about what happened.
Was it an accident? Was he murdered? Is he even dead?
