Review of The Third Man (1949) by Lyle R — 05 Apr 2010
Adapted by Grahame Greene from his novel of the same name, this is a story of mystery, betrayal, heartbreak and loss set against the backdrop of post-war Vienna.
Brilliantly directed with outstanding performances by Cotton, Howard, Valli and of course Orson Welles, this tale of a down-on-his luck pulp writer who comes to Vienna at a friend's request only to discover the friend died under mysterious circumstances and might not have been what he pretended to be keeps you riveted from the opening scene. It's an outstanding film, perhaps the best film noir ever made.
