Review of The Third Man (1949) by Patryk C — 23 Jul 2012
It's an incredibly well-written and directed noir movie, where reality merges with perception, as the fall guy tries to prove his innocence, and in the process, find the real killer. In all the chaos that creates the moody atmosphere of the film, Joseph Cotten blends in perfectly as the somehow anxious and uneasy novelist on the verge of a serious breakdown.
Vienna looks beautiful. Orson Welles is pitch perfect as the ghost-man, a persona that is neither seen nor heard, and there is only the shadow that hints of his existence. One of the strongest noir movies ever, it will grip you and astound you with its expressionistic attitude.
