Review of The Thing from Another World (1951) by Roddy T — 23 Nov 2011
One of the few horror movies that has a good sequel made after it. Not only that but I enjoy the sequel a whole lot better than the original. The Thing From Another World had just a few problems with it while John Carpenter?s version was flawless.
Both movies had large cast but The Thing From Another World had just too many people for my taste. But it was nice that they didn?t show the thing clearly or in a close up. It was also a good thing that we don?t see a space ship.
Both of those could have played off a little campy or fake. The little romance and the reporter I think took away from the story a little and was more or less used for comic relief. But for and RKO picture The Thing From Another World is one of the better ones but doesn?t stand up to The Day the Earth Stood Still or Forbidden Planet as masterpieces of the science fiction genre from the 50?s.
