Review of The Thing from Another World (1951) by Geoffrey O — 11 Jan 2014
This film has an ALMOST identical plot to the John Carpenter film, but should really not be compared. The horror is different and the characters are different. It's certainly more fun than the other one, and I think it had better writing, but I'd say it's about equal in quality.
It's not that scary, but it's still pretty haunting, and I did jump in my seat once. It's very suspenseful and builds atmosphere. I was bothered at the characters' sudden comfortableness with a crazy alien running around though, and it seemed a bit stagy in places, but overall, it's not a bad little film, and definitely worth your time on a rainy evening.
