Review of The Thing (2011) by John W — 09 Sep 2012
True, there's not really any new ground covered in this prequel/remake of John Carpenter's 1982 original, in fact the "ace-female-scientist" is in danger of becoming cliche, which is a shame because it's been pretty well done elsewhere (for example Laura Dern in Jurassic Park, Saana Lathan in AVP).
Don't discredit the film for that though, and don't compare to the awesome original, as it stands up fairly well as a thriller (it's not really a horror film). The cast all around gives excellent performances and that's where this film shines.
Their interaction, especially as the stress of the situation wears on and paranoia sets in, is believable and gripping and the language barrier between some of the characters adds a great element.
