Review of The Thing (2011) by Kevin C — 06 Sep 2012
This was so much better than I expected it to be. WInstead is luminous in the lead, and the tone is overall creepy. I found myself liking this better than the John Carpenter version, but not as much as the original.
Some of the plot circumstances were a bit contrived, but overall I thought this was a better movie than Prometheus! Great to rent and watch late at night! However, when will the scientists ever learn--you don't thaw out frozen aliens in remote locations! Consistent tone, and special effects.
Like a two hour episode of the X-files on a much bigger budget, and the prequel to Carpenter's Thing. Which was based on "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell. Actually this film has quite a bit in common with Prometheus, since they both involve alien Resurrections and are prequels to two better known movies!
