Some weak creature CGI aside this is actually a pretty good stab at the events leading up to John Carpenter's classic 1982 movie. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it but I did. Things to like: Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the lead role, the 'test' to find out who is a 'Thing' and who isn't, the attention to detail in the way it sets up what we see in the JC film, it was shot in Panavision and has familiar throbbing Morricone beats bookending the soundtrack.
