Review of The Thing (2011) by Kevin M. W — 24 Oct 2015
At first I thought it was going to be a hopeless attempt at a re-make of John Carpenters 80's classic of the same name but I was pleasantly surprised to find it was actually a prequel. We get all the answers to what happened at the Norwegian Antartica base Kurt Russell so famously visited in the original & the gruesome discovery he stumbled upon.
The film even ends as the original started to give it that feel of continuity. Not as good as the original by any means but it does have that feel of nostalgia while you watch it. This film relies heavily on CGI whereas the original used props & mechanical puppets which, strange as it sounds, gave it more of an edge in its scary stakes! It's still worth a watch but it'll never touch the original.
