Review of The Thing (2011) by Tom B — 18 Apr 2016
I never watched the original THING from 1982, so I can't really make a comparison. This is a decent Sci-Fi horror, but only had one idea that felt original when compared to the thousands of other creature features out there.
The metal concept. The process of elimination scene was innovative material, but the remainder of the movie contained only a bunch of recycled concepts that hardly warranted a theatre release. The monster effects are impressive, but it still only leaves us with an average predictable isolation romp in the dark with a typical 15 minute kill gap between each death.
It seems that the ending sets precedent for the original movie, which is pretty cool, but ineffective to anyone who didn't see or remember it.
