Review of The Thing (2011) by James W — 31 Oct 2013
The Thing is visceral and relentless, it's a prequel that offers many tense moments of terror and benefits from a great cast and disturbing gore that will make you gag. Alien spider heads pulsate on the faces of dying victims and conjoined bodies stalk the research base corridors.
It's twisted and gross, but looks amazing. Mary Elizabeth Winstead gives the original's Kurt Russell a run for his money, as she runs around the base armed with a flamethrower looking very sexy, she is very motivated and gripping, this horror is one heck of an alien adventure.
The alien itself is a marvel, the effects just look amazing, especially when Juliette starts to change and tentacles rip out her body, although the highlight is when Griggs' face rips open and slashes the helicopter passengers.
The shapeshifting alien is a great comeback and is just as scary as it was in the original. This is a fun, fast paced adventure, you'll have a great time, I think it gets you really involved as you try and guess who will die next and who is disguised.
