Review of The Thing (1982) by Rick P — 02 Sep 2013
A perfect horror film. Carpenter's magnum opus explores the familiar fear that strikes us all from time to time. The fear that those closest to you have changed, and the loss of trust that comes from this change, is brilliantly conveyed as a story of alien body snatchers in a remote Antarctic facility.
Rob Bottin's visionary creature effects dwarf those of any other body snatcher films to date. Carpenter adds his signature ominous synth to Ennio Morricone's already beautifully lonely composition to create the most iconic score in alien terror.
