Review of The Thing (1982) by Solido N — 07 Sep 2018
The greatest horror film I've seen, and also the most terrifying (although that part may be a little biased because I first watched this as a 7 year old kid). It's so much better than the older film from the 1950s, and I was genuinely shocked when I learned that critics hated this film when it first came out in 1982.
Seriously, what is there to hate?! Amazing performances especially from Kurt Russel and Wilford Brimley, the most amazing and terrifying usage of practical effects I've ever seen (really makes you wonder why they don't do more practical effects instead of CGI), and the sense of claustrophobia and deep paranoia.
It's also very well-paced, successfully building tension so that when they scare you, it truly takes effect and isn't wasted with cheap jumpscares every 5 minutes. Anyone that says it's boring or too long doesn't know what true horror is and would prefer to spend money and support garbage like Annabelle and Ouija where you get cheap jumpscares, an incoherent plot, and shitty acting and directing.
