John Carpenters masterpiece, The Thing is one of the top five greatest horror films of all time, filled with truly astonishing practical creature effects that put to shame anything done on a computer today and full of genuinely fucked up, horrific nightmare imagery the likes of which you have never seen in a film before, this is bleak, cold, nihilistic, claustrophobic, paranoid and completely terrifying.
There is nothing else like The Thing. From John Carpenters masterful direction, the haunting score by Ennio Morricone, the superb all male, testosterone fulled ensemble cast led by Kurt Russel at his badass best as possessor of movies finest beard MacReady, and Genius special effects magician Rob Bottin's truly beyond remarkable monster effects, everything adds up to a film that is that rarity, perfect.
