Review of The Thing (1982) by Stephen L — 31 Oct 2012
The special effects for the thing are amazing and help the movie stand out in my mind, anamatronics are soooo much better than CGI. the pacing is great because even though it's slow and quiet, that's what it's like in the north pole (or was it the south pole?).
The slowness is what makes you feel how isolated they are. some horror movies just put their cards down, show you everything they got and that's it, but the good movies use subtlety. The ending isn't very climactic which disappointed me but I enjoyed the movie the whole way through so that made up for it.
