The Thing is an excellent horror/suspense movie with great acting and good special effects (even for being from 1982). Where this movie excells at is not necessarily the horror, but the suspense of not knowing who to trust.
The boundries of sanity and trust in one another while in the middle of nowhere are tested and provide the much needed element that most horror movies are missing.
