Review of The Thing (1982) by Jim D — 30 Mar 2018
This movie in my opinion is John Carpenter's best movie, I love everything about this movie that I find it to be very influential. The suspense is great and very intense, the story and dialogue is very well thought out and of course the special effects makeup is so good that it makes CGI look pointless (which it is).
The characters are very relate-able due the situation that they're in, R.J. MacReady who is played by Kurt Russel is one of his phenomenal roles of all time. The characters like in Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead feel realistic to me and not just common stereotypes like in other horror movies at the time.
The monster in the movie is pretty disturbing, but the the monster isn't the only monster, the main characters are also the monsters because they end up killing each other. It's no Dawn of the Dead or Texas Chainsaw Massacre but I do think this is one of the best horror movies of all time.
