Spurred into watching this as a result of being blown away by the visually stunning 'Tree of Life'. I saw it at the cinema when released and bought it on video afterwards. It soon became a favorite war movie of mine.

Bought again on DVD due to my desire for beautiful imagery and audible thought processes by the characters within the movie. The array of A list hollywood stars in this movie is abundant. My favorite being the performances of the run down but proffesionaly brutal Nick Nolte, and the emotive Ben Chaplin.

Also hats off to Woody Harrelsdon for managing to make me laugh by blowing his own butt off with a grenade. The movie is long and as a result gives a very REAL effect. I love the random snippets to images of exotic wildlife or the sun shining through the leaves.

Harrowing at times, Terence Malik manages to make war look beautiful.
