Review of The Thin Red Line (1998) by Jake R — 17 Mar 2013
This is the first war film I have seen that does not focus on a single character immersed in an epic battle or struggle, but instead makes the attempt to show the perspectives of many soldiers. Such a technique attempts to tell the story of all the soldiers involved in these events, rather than a single one for the sake of drama.
Strangely, it also succeeds at being extremely poetic, more so than being philosophical, as the camera moves through the material and listens to these characters. Even if you're not a war film fan, this is still worth a watch just to see how the material is contemplated and discussed throughout the picture.
