Review of The Thin Red Line (1998) by Joe H — 26 Jul 2013
Dispensing with character development and story, Malick seems content to just muse over high-minded abstracts, and asks the audience to do same. At this point we're not even watching a story unfold, we're merely watching an vague stream of consciousness, a glimpse into Malick's hazy intellect.
Clocking in at over 3 hours, the film is so dull, bloated, and self-obsessed that even if I knew what was Malick was trying to say, I wouldn't care.
