Review of The Thin Red Line (1998) by Tuukka P — 13 Apr 2014
Terence Malick's return as a director after a 20 yearsis a masterful movie about the Battle of Guadalcanal in WWII. Big stars appear on small roles as then unknowns like Adrien Brody and Jim Caviziel take the center stage.
Very different war movie experience as Malick makes it a strong point to tell the true crime of modern warfare - against the innocent nature and of the human psyche. Three hours fly by if you're willing to immerse yourself to the beautiful visual scenery and the musical experience.
The battle scenes are brutal and not so heroic as in the other 1998 WWII picture Saving Private Ryan but this one in hindsight is the more powerful piece of art of the two.
