Review of The Thin Blue Line (1988) by Chad W — 29 Jun 2013
The Thin Blue Line is one of the rare documentaries that successfully accomplishes its goals, both in cinematic retelling and in changing its world and people involved after its creation. Morris places the viewer in the role of a judge and presents his film in a very similar fashion to the people and court who originally convicted Randall Dale Adams.
It's incredibly interesting to watch a documentary use the same microscope as those it intends to expose. I'm not sure if Morris was completely aware of this fact and worked with it willingly, or if he just let the different narrative levels occur naturally as they had to.
But it doesn't really matter. Truly unique and extremely important.
