Review of The Thin Blue Line (1988) by Paul J — 25 Jun 2014
A highly influential crime documentary. The countless serial killer docs and crime investigation TV series we see every day, owe a lot to this 80's classic. Its style and approach have been imitated a thousand times.
The people interviewed are fascinating and hypnotizing to listen to. Perhaps, in part to Phillip Glass' mesmerizing score. The movie has gone down in history books because it exposed the hypocrisy of the law and managed to get an innocent man out of jail.
He had a life sentence. Filmmaker Errol Morris essentially saved his life. Rarely do films achieve something this significant regarding change. (William Freidkin did something similar back before The French Connection).
