Review of The Thief of Bagdad (1940) by Cody F — 15 Nov 2008
A great fantasy film that has pioneered many special effects. It's like King Kong in that respect(except I actually enjoyed this). The story will be instantly familiar if you read about it. Aladdin borrows freely from it.
There's a magic carpet,a genie,a common thief,an evil Grand Vizier named Jaffar...you get the point. The technicolor is so bright and pops right out of the screen. Sure some of the effects are very dated but if you're like me then you'll just get enraptured in the story and won't care.
