Fairbanks manages the impressive task of wordlessly exuding the charisma of harrison ford, errol flynn, and clark gable - all in one of the most impressive and joyfully executed special effects extravaganzas ever.
it takes a while to get there, but as the opening title says, 'happiness must be earned.' it's not in the same category of other silent masterpieces like 'greed,' but that would be like comparing 'raiders of the lost ark' to 'there will be blood.
