Review of The Thaw (2009) by Jason H — 24 Oct 2009
The fourth entry in my Horror Movie A Day series, The Thaw plays like a plot from an episode of The X-Files . . . and not an especially good one at that. What could have been a tense throwback to movies like The Thing is instead a preachy, pro-environmental piece disguised as a horror film.
The entire first hour is an exercise in the dangers of global warming. It's only once the small, parasitic monsters are unleashed in the film's final 30 minutes that The Thaw really takes off.
Too bad. There is a good movie lost in here somewhere.
