Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) by William B — 01 Jun 2010
YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU...TO STOP MAKING THESE HORROR FRANCHISES CONTINUE!!!
In the original (1974) Tobe Hooper did everything perfectly, there were thrills, chills and kills throughout this landmark of all slasher films so why OH WHY did other people have to make sequels and remakes??!! I don't think I'm alone here when I say every classic horror has always been the first in it's franchise: Saw, Halloween, Friday The 13th, Nightmare On Elm Street the list goes on. But they have to destroy the films by making about 10 others! And unfortunately TCM:TB has also fallen victim to this.
The reason I even gave this film any kind of hope for it being good (20%) was because of the portrayal of Thomas Hewitt was a great way to show how and why he became to notorious Leatherface.
Born in a slaughterhouse. Taken in by a family of cannibals. Set in Texas. Of course he was going to be a serial killer!
But saying that there were little things such as working in a slaghterhouse and being as dumb as chicken which aslo link with how little Tommy went from hammer to saw. BUT THIS IS THE ONLY POSITIVE! And he wasn't in on screen for very long.
THE NEGATIVES: In the original it showed the kids going across texas to somewhere and you only knew their names, in this one they spent half the time trying to make a back story for the characters when in the end (SPOLIER ALERT!) they all got killed just as harshly and just as easily as the original.
Secondly they had to add in all this shit with these bikers and Vietnam? what is the point THEY ALL DIED why would they build up this story about going to vietnam and being licked out by some lesbian biker chick if there all going to die? Surely they could have at least added a little tension and suspense into it.
Finally all these scenes with this fat woman and the grandma...seriously? In the original there had no women in the family. Why? Because men are a lot scarier than women! And sure they tried to make the women look evil by licking the peoples blood off the floor but no one realy notices something like that while a biker is getting sawn in half by Leatherface.
To end this attack on ths film...DON'T WATCH THIS.
Period.
