Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) by Mikey O — 25 Mar 2013
After a second look at this on IFC, I decided it actually has a lot going for it. Did we need a Texas Chainsaw prequel? No. But this one actually gives us characters to root for, they are not the typical teens who are just asking to be slaughtered like most slasher films in history.
This movie shows us some compelling, dark, disgusting things and I have to say the imagery is intriguing & it works. My biggest problem with the film is R. Lee Ermey's distracting over-the-top performance that pulls the audience away from the rest of the unique, interesting cast.
As a whole, you could do a lot worse.
