Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) by Rodney S — 29 Sep 2009
This one surprised me too, as I thoroughly enjoyed it. The "R" rating has come a long way, to allow as much graphic gore as this movie contains. This may be the most brutal TCM movie yet, and I loved every minute of it.
It was a little different than I thought it might be, as I thought it would spend more time showing the family in early years, especially Leatherface as a child. Very little time depicting that, it jumped pretty early on right into the teenagers about to be slaughtered ritual.
I might revisit the remake of TCM (2003), for which this is a prequel, as I don't think I gave it the chance it might deserve. IMO, any movie with R. Lee Ermey, is going to have at least one outstanding performance, and that certainly is the case here.
Ermey is having the time of his life, as he says in the interviews. But I have to give kudos to just about the whole cast on this one, a very decent prequel indeed. I guess I'll have to put this one on my wish list, or buy list immediately, I can't imagine what they cut, because this R version is amazing.
Nice to see Tobe as a producer, and Kim Henkel too. That's adds some real credibility to me for some reason.
