Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) by Lee B — 27 Aug 2010
As a prequel, The Beginning isn't up to much with giving away how the Leatherface family were born and became what they are, which is irritating considering that's how it was advertised. I do however, admire the art direction.
It's fantastically used to change the atmosphere of the film, and the score assists it superbly. It does however just turn into another installment in the franchise, and an almost carbon copy of the remake for which it is set before.
Once again, R. Lee Ermey's performance is noteworthy, and that's one of the reasons I have given it such a high rating.
