Review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) by Blais E — 15 Mar 2011
Riotously-raucous-and-rip-snorting comedic sequel to Tobe Hooper's iconic original "Chainsaw", here ripe with over-the-top nut-bag characters, bucketfulls of copious gore effects, and lots of broad black humor.
The first installment was played completely straight, whereas this one is a cartoon brought to life. Long-legged, hot-pants wearing Texas Dee-jay Stretch (Played by the comely Caroline Williams-) is enlisted by wacked-out Texas Marshall Lefty Enright (Dennis Hopper in a typically unsubtle performance-) to help hunt down the murderous cannabalistic clan, the Sawyers, who delight in winning the Annual Chili Cook-off ("The Secret's in the Meat"!), and are presided over by their patriarch, the Cook (The hysterical rat-faced Jim Siedow, reprising his role from the original-).
Rounding out the quartet of twisted terrors are Chop-Top (Bill Moseley) so-named because he has a metal plate embedded in his cranium from a Viet Nam War wound, and spends the entire picture tearing off bits of skin from his almost non-existent scalp with a heated wire hanger and eating them, cuddly-and-crusty, head-cracking, blood-guzzling Gramps, and of course, jolly old Leatherface, chainsaws and all.
All Hell breaks loose by film's end, as all the characters converge in the Sawyers' corpse-filled subterranean hideout, with Lefty and Leatherface engaging in a Chainsaw Duel-to-the-Death. Leatherface's earlier simulated sex act with Stretch substituting his favorite tree-cutting implement for his manhood has to be seen to be believed! Truly audacious and hilarious, and vastly different from its predecessor.
Fun family entertainment--but only if yer family's like mine!!
